MODERN ART
Modern art is when the form of the horse is used in more experimental ways. Beginning in the 1970's, horses were used as motifs in different paintings and sculptures throughout the 20th Century. The Impressionist and Post Impressionist artists were the beginning of modern art. Horses were beginning to be depicted in a non-realistic configuration. Below is an example of a composition from an Impressionist artist, Edgar Degas. Horses began to be produced in not just painting, but through sculpture as well. Deborah Butterfield enjoyed configuring pieces of scrap metal or drift wood into the form of a horse. During this period, horses were even starting to be depicted through photos of which were put together to create motion. Eadweard Muybridge was famous for images he put together to create the first motion through art.
