MEDIEVAL ART
During the Medieval Time Period, horses were an object of war. In all pieces of art shown, horses are mounted by soldiers and headed to battle. They were a symbol of strength and power. Important political figures were mounted on them and painted in a scene of war or hunting. Depicted below, the King of France strides on his horse to battle, while a multitude of knights follow him on their steeds. Horses were also used for hunting. Shown below in "Prince Tassilo Rides to Hunting", horses were used as vehicles for the people of Medieval times. Towards the end of the Medieval period, horses began to be painted in a more realistic manner, shown in the last painting, "the Ghent Altarpiece: Adoration of the Lamb".
