ANCIENT ART
Horses have been a part of mankind since the Paleolithic Era. The earliest example of art from the Paleolithic Era are the Lascaux caves, located in Southwestern France. Horses were also used for religious purposes, such as in ancient Greece, a horse head symbolized Selene, the Greek goddess of the moon. Horses were used in warfare, for example in ancient Egypt, horses were used to pull chariots mounted by kings. Shown below, King Tut hunts aboard a two horse chariot, the scene is depicted alongside the King's tomb itself. Chariots were also used in Ancient China, where life size warriors and horse figures were sculpted from clay. They are known as the Terracotta Warriors. The Ancient Romans preferred sculpting their horses as well. Depicted below is Lion Attacking a Horse, dating back to 325-300 B.C.
